PyLadies Chicago

pyladies-geek

We're the Chicago chapter of PyLadies, an international mentorship group for marginalized genders, such as but not limited to non-binary people, trans people, and women in tech.

We host monthly events, talks, and study groups where you can meet other pythonistas and learn more about programming, data science, web development, and more.

All skill levels welcome!

Organizers

Lorena Mesa

Political scientist turned coder, Lorena Mesa is a GitHub data engineer, Python Software Foundation Chair & Director, and PyLadies Chicago co-organizer. Lorena's time at Obama for America and her subsequent graduate research required her to learn how to transform messy, incomplete data into intelligible analysis on topics like predicting Latinx voter behavior. It's this unique background in research and applied mathematics that drove Lorena to pursue a career in engineering and data science. One part activist, one part Star Wars fanatic, and another part Trekkie, Lorena abides by the motto to "live long and prosper".

Sand Ip

A graduate of Illinois Institute of Technology, Sand Ip began her career as an electrical engineer before transitioning into software engineering. Now an engineer at Numerator, Sand is passionate about teaching others how to create with code. She is currently studying to become a full stack developer and in her spare time, she enjoys reading non-fiction and going on foodie adventures. You can say hello to Sand at our upcoming events on on Twitter at @ysandii!
